What do you mean, murdered?

...So far, all but one version of me has had to be killed to stop the Powers.

A version that was here for a bit. He's - god, he got the luck of the draw. In his version, Gertrude destroyed the Institute and the fears. They're all just... Happy working on a museum and running a podcast now.

Oh.

[ He sounds SO bitter. ]

How does he rate getting something like that, eh?

No idea.

They have a nice easy life, married his Martin. Things are going well.

And what, all of the rest of us get to suffer?

[ He makes a slightly choked noise. ]

[He sighs heavily. It's weighed on him just as much as it's hitting Martin now.]

That does seem to be the case.

Well I hate him on principle, then.

[Jonah gives a little quiet huff of a laugh.]

He's. He and I argued a bit at the start. And I hurt him very badly. So maybe save some of that hatred.

… Mm, well, I still think he’s a right prick then.

[ He sighs a bit, his outlines blurring again. ]

Agreed. Though I've come to realize all versions of me are a prick, honestly.

[ He laughs just a little. ]

I mean, yes? Though not as much as you think.

I'll take your word for it. Fail to see how I'm not most days anymore.

[But that guilt eats at him. He should go back. Go to bed.]

[ Martin reaches out a frigid hand for his cheek. ]

Stay with me a little longer?

[He exhales softly, leaning into that cold touch. It's a comfort in its own way.]

Oh. Oh I would like that. It’s been so long since I’ve seen a sunrise.

[ He rests his head against Jonah’s. ]

Then... Until sunrise.

[He lets out a heavy breath, watching out the window.

[ The sky is already beginning to pink just a little. ]

[ His voice catches in his throat. ]
