Character Name: Jonathan Sims the Archivist (Note: Any information you look up will say "John". It's a trick and don't believe it.)
Age: Early 30s
Canon: The Magnus Archives

Canon Abilities: Runs hands down face okay. Bear with me.
- Self-healing. Jon's body auto-heals itself. At one point he tries cutting his own fingers off and expresses frustration that the moment he removes the knife, the skin healed itself instantly. Now, the only thing(s) that can hurt Jon are things done by people he has a close connection with (like Martin, or his Archival staff), or by Avatars of the other Fear entities. Those wounds linger normally and heal normally, which is the worst time for him.
- Compulsion. Jon can use his voice to compel people into telling him things, answering questions. There is the implication that he could also simply compel someone to do physical actions for him, but he never consciously does this so we don't actually know if he's successfully done so.
- Knowing. The Archivist is able to Know certain things without having prior knowledge of them. This most often happens with relevant information to statements or the situation at hand. Jon has experienced pain while purposely trying to Know what an Entity is planning. The Archivist can only see actual facts, past or present - this can amount to experiences, history, what someone is/was thinking or feeling in a situation. This would include things that have happened in the game so far. He would be able to Know about conversations, actions, and feelings. (In short: this is basically canonical infomodding) This power is only used on characters who have actively opted in and provided what information Jon is allowed to Know, and for game setting things only what moderators allow and provide Jon to Know. Important to note: The Archivist is not able to know anything about the future, nor is he able to see anything set in a hypothetical or a choice.
Inventory: His clothes covered in blood, an old fashioned tape recorder
🦋 Personality
Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.
- Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic? Magic is not real. Supernatural things are real, horror is real, the tragedy of man is real. But magic? Not real. He would sooner believe in a manifestation of the feeling of 'love' more than he would ever believe in magic. Jon believes in things he can see and touch, and being traumatized so young prepared him for a lifetime of pain, suffering, and terror. Magic is a frivolous thought, something that is not only not real, but a waste of time when they could be researching real things. The whole universe is big and there is still so much about it we don't know, we have to keep researching and not waste time chasing flights of fancy. In order to protect ourselves and prevent tragedy, we must all know as much as we can about the world around us and what terrors await us. Magic serves no purpose for that.
- What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why? The Siren Song of what to bring Jon closer is a fun slew of different options.
- If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why. Martin Blackwood. He already did once, in a way, and he would do it every time, as many times as it takes. When Jon was suspected of murder by everyone around him that he thought he could trust, Martin was the only one that stood up for him. When his long time friend Tim Stoker began to despise him (for good reason), Martin was the one who urged them to repair the friendship. When Jon was on the run from the police and investigating statements, Martin is the one who genuinely worried about him being missing. When Martin is taken by Peter into the Lonely (a sort of dimensional rift in reality that Peter takes people he wants to make disappear), Jon followed. He knew the possibility of finding and bringing Martin back were slim, but he used everything within his power to do it. Jon would follow Martin to the ends of the universe if he had to.
- If you'd like pixies to change one event in your character's life, what would it be and why? Were Jon given the opportunity to change one thing in his life, he would have difficulty choosing. His immediate first thought would, of course, be not asking his friends from Research to join him in Archives. If he hadn't done that, then they would not have gotten wrapped up in the mess of everything. They would still be alive, unharmed and relatively not traumatized further than they already were in their lives.
The first would obviously be the voices of those he's lost. Tim, Sasha, Daisy. Others he's been cut off from for his own choices like Melanie, Georgie, Basira. Any or all of them would have him coming up closer, just wanting to make sure because what if he's wrong? What if it really is them and he misses saying anything to them? He has to, he has to take that chance.
Of course, another siren song to get him is Martin, whom he would follow to the ends of the earth, through the multiverse even. Has, and would, and he knows he made a promise to Martin that they would always do things together. Always go together.
He would always approach the sound of his boss, Elias Bouchard. Elias manipulated him and tricked him into everything Jon has done. Jon has a personal vested interest in making sure Elias Bouchard is no longer permitted to live.
Then, of course, his next thought would be that he hadn't decided from the start to be so mean to Martin. Maybe things could have been different, maybe they could have found themselves sooner. And Maybe Martin wouldn't have felt the need to prove himself by going back down into that basement and getting himself on Jane Prentiss' watch list.
That still wouldn't solve the root issue, though, and he would consider maybe stopping the bully of his youth from ever taking his book or that maybe Jon had never gotten the book in the first place. That would have stopped him from ever being Marked, from never feeling the guilt, and never learning about Jurgen Leitner. He would have never gone into researching the supernatural and esoteric, he would have never gotten a job at the Institute, and perhaps been just happy as a literature teacher or something.
But that would mean he never met Sasha or Martin or Tim, so that's a no go of an idea either.
Ultimately, if given the opportunity, he would simply wish he hadn't taken up the position of Head Archivist. Nothing that happened after he took the promotion would have happened, and they would all be happier and alive for it.
